Please return to the church office or by emailing it to office@stpetersmorley.org by Sunday 13th April

What is the Electoral Roll?

Every parish in the Church of England has an Electoral Roll, which is the Roll of people who can vote on church matters at the APCM.  For example, at the meeting we will elect Parochial Church Council members (PCC), who are an important part of church governance.

Is the Electoral Roll a membership list?

No.  We do not have a membership list.  If you consider St Peter’s Morley as ‘your church’ you are a member of St Peter’s church family whether or not you are on the Electoral Roll.

Why should I be in SPM’s Electoral Roll?

Being on the Electoral Roll means that you will be able to have your say on important matters at the APCM, including who represents the church family as part of our PCC and as part of the wider church in the area (Deanery Synod).

It is important that the PCC and wider church councils are truly representative of the church family.  The number of people on the Electoral Roll affects the number of PCC members we have. If the Roll is not representative this means that the PCC is too small for the workload involved, putting heavy strain on the members.  We therefore try to encourage all those who are eligible and who consider themselves to be part of St Peter’s Family to be included on the Electoral Roll, and to participate in our APCM.

Being on the electoral roll is compulsory if you want to stand for election to the PCC or for one of the Church of England Synods (Councils).

Am I eligible to be included in the Electoral Roll?

To be included in the Electoral Role you must be,

Baptised

Aged 16 or over

A member of the Church of England or of a Church in communion with it who is resident in the parish or, if not resident in the parish has habitually attended public worship in the parish for six months.

The application form also contains notes to help you understand eligibility.

I’m not sure if I live in St Peter’s Parish?
