Accessible Church at St Peter's
Here at St Peter's Morley we're wanting to see children, youth and adults with additional needs experiencing a relationship with Jesus.
We currently have a few things in place to hopefully make your experience (whether you are someone with additional needs or a family member/carer of someone who is) a comfortable and accessible one.
Do contact us if you have any specific needs so we can know how to best support you when you are in church.
Accessible Church Lead
We are so thankful to have Anne Taylor as our Accessible Church Lead at St Peter's.
Anne has a voluntary role which oversees our ministry with children, youth and adults with additional needs.
She has experience of working in schools supporting children with additional needs, but also with personal experience of supporting a close family member.
Anne is full of great ideas and wisdom to input into our services, children's groups and youth groups. She's also passionate about supporting families who are raising children with additional needs and she would love to chat with you if you are in need of any more support in that area.
Anne has helped us develop the following which are in place at the moment:
Sunday Morning Tots/Kids/Youth groups
We are regularly doing training with the volunteer team on making our Sunday sessions more accessible for those with additional needs. We're still learning! But some of the things we are doing are:
- Visual timetables in the groups
- Fidget toys available in all groups
- Blackout sensory tent to use upon request
- Worship songs with actions (often Makaton)
Sunday Morning Services
- Visual timetable of the service available upon request
- Fidget toys available in our 'Worship Resources' box
- Overlays for Bibles available in our 'Worship Resources' box
- Large print Bibles on the shelves
